Meet Cheese!
Cheese came to ACC as a stray, so her history is largely unknown. She is a food-motivated, people-oriented girl who enjoys attention and can be sweet and affectionate with her handlers. She approaches with some coaxing and leans into gentle handling.
My Ideal Home
Cheese would do best with an experienced adopter who can provide structure, consistency, and reward-based, force-free training. She needs to be the only pet in the home and should have a calm, controlled environment where she can continue working on her reactions to other dogs. She should not visit dog parks.
Good with Kids?
Cheese is not recommended for homes with children under 13. Older, respectful, dog-savvy children may be considered with appropriate supervision and guidance.
Good with Other Pets?
Cheese should be the only pet in the home. She arrived with another dog following an altercation in which both dogs sustained bite wounds, and she has also displayed significant reactivity toward other dogs while in her kennel. Controlled socialization and positive-reinforcement training are recommended rather than dog parks or off-leash settings.
Overall Health
Cheese is recovering appropriately from multiple bite wounds to her face, head, neck, and limbs. The wounds have been healing well. She was also recently treated for kennel cough/CIRDC and is being monitored while recovering.
Behavior Determination
Level 3 - Experienced Adopters. Cheese has a history of a dog bite incident and displays significant on-leash and barrier reactivity toward other dogs. She will benefit from an experienced adopter who can provide structure and continue reward-based behavior modification in a controlled setting.
Other Fun Facts
Cheese is food motivated and loves checking in with her handlers. She can get adorably wiggly when interacting with people and tends to lean into handling for affection. She also enjoys toys and will happily grab one and walk away with it!
