About Just Rescues

Hi, we’re Garmonbozia’s parents.

Like a lot of people looking to adopt, we had no idea where to start.

We wanted to rescue.

We’re first-time pet parents living in New York, and when we decided we were ready for a dog, we knew one thing for certain: we wanted to rescue.

But finding one wasn’t as simple as we expected. We searched Petfinder and other adoption websites, visited rescue websites, scrolled through social media pages, and bounced between listing after listing. There were so many incredible dogs looking for homes, but it was surprisingly difficult to simply browse rescue dogs from rescue organizations all in one place.

We also discovered that not everyone calling themselves a rescue actually was one. As first-time pet parents trying to adopt responsibly, figuring out who we could trust was confusing—and honestly, a little scary.

Eventually, after a lot of searching, we found Garmonbozia through No Dogs Left Behind—and everything changed.

Becoming dog parents taught us a lot.

We learned about rescue organizations we never knew existed. We learned how confusing the adoption process can feel when you’re doing it for the first time. We learned what you actually need for a new dog—and that, despite what the internet may tell you, you probably don’t need every expensive high-tech collar and gadget you come across.

Most importantly, we learned how many wonderful rescue dogs are out there waiting for someone to find them.

So we built JustRescues.

JustRescues is exactly what the name says: just rescues.

Helping more dogs get seen.

We bring adoptable rescue dogs from organizations across New York together in one place, making it easier to discover dogs and the rescues caring for them.

We aren’t a rescue ourselves, and we don’t replace the organizations doing the hard work of saving these dogs. Our goal is to give their adoptable dogs another place to be seen—and to make the search a little easier for future pet parents like us.

Because we know firsthand how difficult it can be to figure out who you can trust, every organization listed on JustRescues is reviewed so we only platform reputable rescue organizations. We want you to spend less time wondering whether a rescue is legitimate and more time finding the dog who might become part of your family.

Because sometimes the hardest part of finding your best friend is simply finding them. We hope JustRescues helps you find yours.

We’re dog people, and we love hearing from other dog people.

JustRescues was created by first-time pet parents, and we know there’s always more to learn. If you have an idea, suggestion, opinion, or something you think we could be doing better, we genuinely want to hear it.
