Submit an adoption application a t socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Dad Says: " Jasmine is a super chill, friendly, go-with-the-flow dog who seems happy pretty much anywhere. She loves people, other dogs, walks, toys, cuddling, being outside, and hanging out at home. She may not have gone on regular walks before, so we’ve been easing her into a normal routine. As she gets used to it and builds up some stamina, I think she’ll happily walk for as long as you’d like. For now, she comes home and immediately takes a well-earned nap. She’s calm and comfortable at home, including when she’s left alone, although she’s definitely a glutton for attention when you’re around. She’s curious and playful, and I think she’d pick up fetch pretty quickly. She’d probably enjoy puzzle toys, brain games, and learning some tricks, too. She’s just an awesome, well-adjusted dog who’ll make a really fun and affectionate companion." Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level: MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) TOLERANCE TO CITY: City pup. She’s mostly unfazed by city sights and sounds. Every once in a while, a loud noise catches her off guard, but she gets over it immediately and keeps going. POTTY TRAINING: Yes. No accidents! COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS: Social butterfly. She loves people and wants to make friends with pretty much everyone. She’s definitely not a guard dog. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN: Yes for most ages, based on her previous foster’s experience. I haven’t personally seen her around kids, but her previous foster said she did well with them. SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS: Yes. She’s super friendly and playful with other dogs. She can come on a little strong at first, especially with smaller dogs, because she’s excited to sniff them and say hello. Sometimes she needs a little help realizing that the other dog might not want her looming over them. RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS: Not sure. I haven’t seen her around cats or other small pets yet. Probably fine though. Does chase squirrels and birds. MOUTHY BEHAVIOR: Past this stage. She hasn’t shown any issues with chewing things she shouldn’t or being mouthy during play. SEPARATION ANXIETY: Past this stage. She’s completely fine when she’s left home alone and hasn’t cried or been destructive. When you are home, though, she loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it. May steal a sock. LEASH MANNERS: Getting the hang of it. She doesn’t really pull, but she does zigzag and sort of orbit you because she wants to smell everything. I think she’ll get the hang of it quickly as she gets more practice. CUDDLE BUG LEVEL: High. She loves affection and wants to be close to her people. JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLO: Listens to correction. She likes to jump up when she’s excited to see someone, but she listens when she’s corrected. CRATE TRAINING: Not tested. I haven’t tried putting her in a crate because she’s fine home alone without one, but I imagine she’d be fine with it. Medical status: Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
