Meet Brownie!

Brownie was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. He is a sensitive, thoughtful dog who can take time to feel comfortable in new situations and prefers to engage with people on his own terms. Once he warms up, he can be friendly and gentle, but he appreciates a slow, respectful approach.

Brownie would do best in a calm, patient home that understands he may need time to build trust. He benefits from a predictable routine, gentle handling, and positive reinforcement. Because of his sensitivity, an adult-only home will help him feel safest and most secure.

Things to Know

Brownie has a medium energy level and can experience separation anxiety, often crying or barking when left alone for long periods. He prefers to approach people when he is ready and does best when given space and choice in interactions. With consistency, structure, and gentle encouragement, he has the potential to continue building confidence and comfort in a home setting.

Brownie may be shy at first, but once he decides you're his person, he enjoys coming over for affection in his own time and on his own terms.

A volunteer writes: When you come to visit Brownie, he'll greet you one of two ways. Either propped up in his kennel peering eagerly out of his window, hoping you might be there for him. Or, with his grinch feet peeking out from below his kennel as a reminder of how stinkin' cute he is! And when I take him for a walk, no less than three people will stop us to comment on him. "He's so derpy." "Look at those EARS" (they somehow manage to look even longer than his tail). Or, "OMG what a cute dog!" Yet, in spite of all of this, he's managed to get overlooked for over 2 months! How? We don't get it!

Brownie was surrendered due to issues with the landlord. His guardian tells us he's been gentle with children, is shy around new people and has limited experiences with other dogs or cats. He's described as a "sweet dog" who likes laying in your lap or being a couch potato. He likes to play fetch and gets the zoomies. He's not picky about food and knows sit and give paw. Lastly, "He's a huge lovebug that wants as much attention as possible." Due to some fearfulness in the shelter, and separation anxiety reported in his former home, Brownie is available to a Level 3 adopter.
