My foster writes: He is such a good boy! He doesn't bark and hasn't messed with anything at home while I am at work.
He is very patient waiting to go for his walk and he only wants hugs and some TLC! Very food motivated, too- a great lover of greek yoghurt.
He has all this excitement pent up and he might get jumpy on me for pets once or twice during walks, but we are slowly working on that.
We passed by some other dogs on a distance and he was very friendly and only showed interest.

My foster writes: Hercules was a great house guest. He's housebroken and slept peacefully in the basement overnight. He didn't bark, whine or chew on anything. We saw no destructive tendencies. He is affectionate and snuggly. He's also pretty good on the leash. He pulled a bit at the start but then settled into a nice pace. He seems interested in meeting other dogs with bouncy, happy energy. But he's easily redirected with a treat. He shows no reactivity to dogs. He enjoyed being in the car. Hercules could be a running buddy or a couch potato. And at 4 years old, he's the perfect age. The puppy stage is behind him and he's ready to join a home. You won't regret taking a chance on this good, good boy.

My Boroughbreaker writes: Really wonderful dog-- very responsive to our commands, didn't notice any jumpiness, destructiveness, or fearfulness. Very trusting-- was comfortable with us handling him and let us clean his paws after our first walk. He was exciting for whatever activity we presented him with-- whether a walk outside or hanging out on the couch inside. Showed no reactivity to other dogs we walked past, though seemed pretty interested in them. Showed no fearfulness to new people approaching him. Very cuddly, excitable, and attached at the hip to whoever is spending time with him!

Hercules is a friendly and social dog who was abandoned by his previous owner and later surrendered to the shelter. He is a laid-back and affectionate dog once he feels comfortable but can be nervous in new situations. Hercules enjoys being around people and can be playful and wiggly when he bonds with someone.

My Ideal Home

Hercules would do best in an adult-only home with a calm, predictable environment. He needs a family that is patient and experienced with fearful or anxious dogs. He may display some nervousness or fear-based behaviors, so a home where he can adjust at his own pace will be ideal. His new family should be prepared to provide enrichment, structure, and positive reinforcement to help him manage his impulsivity and destructive tendencies.

Good with Kids?

No. Due to his fearfulness, especially around strangers, Hercules is better suited to a home without children under 13.

Good with Other Pets?

No. Hercules has not been tested with other animals but has shown fear-based behaviors (barking, growling, hiding) around cats. He would do best in a home with no cats or other pets.

Leash Manners

Hercules walks on a loose leash but can pull moderately. While he is generally easy to leash, he may be hesitant about collaring, and desensitization could help him feel more comfortable during walks.

Behavior Determination

Level 4. Hercules is recommended for an experienced adopter. His fearfulness and destructive behaviors, along with his poor impulse control, make him best suited for someone with experience working with anxious dogs. He will need a patient and dedicated adopter who can provide consistent training and care.
