Meet Donnie Thornberry!

Donnie Thornberry is a young, energetic guy who came to ACC as a stray with no known history. He is social and eager to interact with people, but he can become very excited and overwhelmed, especially in the busy shelter environment. Donnie loves attention and will need some guidance learning to keep all four paws on the floor and stay calm when he gets excited.

My Ideal Home

Donnie would do best with an adopter who is ready to help him learn good manners through positive, reward-based training. He will benefit from plenty of exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to decompress in a calm environment. A home with older children and someone comfortable working with an energetic, easily over-aroused dog would be ideal.

Good with Kids?

Donnie's history with children is unknown. Due to his high energy, jumping, and social hyperarousal, ACC recommends a home with children over 13.

Good with Other Pets?

Donnie's history with other dogs is unknown, and he did not pass the dog portion of his behavior assessment. Further guidance from ACC should be followed when considering introductions to other dogs. His history with cats is unknown.

Level 3 - Donnie would do best with an adopter who is prepared to work on basic manners, impulse control, and managing his excitement using positive reinforcement. He is also showing anxiety in the shelter and will benefit from a calm environment and time to decompress.

Other Fun Facts

Donnie is a very enthusiastic people-dog who loves being around his handlers. He can get so excited that he jumps up and tries to lean into people for attention. With patience, structure, and reward-based training, he has plenty of potential to become a wonderful companion.

A volunteer writes: The second I even look at Donnie, his butt is wiggling out of control. He cannot stop his whole body from showing how happy he is to make a new friend. He plays, he snacks, but most importantly he cuddles. After all the excitement, he plops himself down in the heat with his legs splayed out, ready to relax.

Donnie met a dog three times at the shelter, showing a wagging tail but walking away, preferring socializing with people at this time.

Donnie was found as a stray. He has continuously charmed every person he has met. He was found as a stray just a few weeks ago, and hopefully his charming personality lands him a home quickly!
