Rex is at risk due to behavior concerns. His previous owner described him as a playful, high-energy dog. When attempting to rehome Rex privately, he bit his potential adopter, catching their pants. Rex has not acclimated well during his time at the care centers. He has escalated to growling, baring teeth, hard barking, and lunging in his kennel when approached. When out of his kennel, he is tense and jumps up, fixating on the leash. He has been observed to bite the leash intensely, pulling it into his kennel when returning him. Medically, he has a Hematochezia and a wound.

Rex was surrendered into Care by his previous owner due to moving to a new home that does not allow pets. His previous family describes him as a social and affectionate dog that is very active and playful. He loves going for car rides, bath time/water, is not picky with food or treats, and prefers playing with handballs and chewing on Bones. His previous owner did note that he has minimal experience with strangers and has escalated to hard barking and growling at strangers and unfamiliar children. He is also reported to display the aforementioned behaviors on walks. During his stay in care, Rex did escalate to similar behaviors upon intake. He has only allowed for minimal handling since intake and has escalated to higher-level warnings when approached in the kennel; he has begun to leash bite during removal and when being returned to the kennel. Due to the concerns reported in the previous home and displayed during his stay in care, we recommend that Rex be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope Rescue partner that can address his behavior challenges with the use of a certified professional trainer who uses only positive reinforcement methods.
