Sirius was surrendered into care as a stray due to his owner passing away. Sirius was surrendered along with three other dogs. One of the three dogs was found to have bite wounds, but it is unknown whether Sirius or one of the other two dogs was the biter. During his stay in care, Sirius has displayed a low threshold for arousal, which has manifested as leash biting. He has been difficult to remove and return to the kennel due to the intensity of his leash fighting. He will bite and pull the leash into the kennel and is not readily refocused at times with the use of treats. In a calmer, quieter settings serious has engaged in play with plush toys, occasionally checks in with handlers, and is tolerant of brief petting. Due to the observed concerns Sirius has displayed during his stay in care, we recommend that he be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope Rescue partner that can address his concerns with the use of a professional certified trainer who uses only positive reinforcement methods.
