Meet Gia!

Gia was surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her, and she's hoping her next chapter leads to a forever home. She can be a little shy at first, but she's very treat-motivated and begins to warm up with gentle encouragement. Once she feels comfortable, she's ready to show off her sweet side.

My Ideal Home

Gia would do best with a patient adopter who will give her time to settle in and build trust. A calm environment, predictable routine, and positive reinforcement will help her feel safe and confident.

Good with Other Pets?

Gia has previously interacted positively with other dogs. Slow, thoughtful introductions are recommended with any future canine siblings.

Good with Kids?

Because Gia can be fearful and needs time to feel comfortable, ACC recommends an adult-only home.

Things to Know

Gia has some resource-guarding tendencies around high-value treats and will need her belongings respected. She's also working on her manners and mouthiness, so force-free training and appropriate toys will help her learn good ways to interact. With patience and understanding, Gia can settle into a routine and become a wonderful companion.

My Boroughbreaker writes: Gia is on the GO! She would make an excellent hiking buddy and adventure companion. After a quick pup cup, Gia and I toured every inch of central park. She loved drinking straight from the water fountain! Although Gia was immediately affectionate and waggy tailed with me, overall she seemed nervous and needed a warm up introduction to the strangers in the park that asked to pet her. She was excellent with kids! During our picnic, Gia had zero resource guarding or mouthing issues. She took treats from my hands gently and let me have my snacks without intervening. Gia can get overly excited and is working on leash manners. She also appears to have on leash dog reactivity, as she hard barked with raised hackles when other dogs were too close. A perfect family for Gia would likely be an outdoorsy one or with a yard where she could run free in!
