Surfer is the sweetest boy and a total lovebug. He absolutely adores people and wants to be involved in whatever you’re doing, whether that means following you around the apartment, curling up next to you on the couch, or resting his chin or paws on you. He has no concept of personal space and thinks 50 pounds is a perfectly reasonable size for a lap dog. He loves giving kisses (especially face kisses!) and getting belly rubs, but he’s also a good listener and respects a “no” when someone needs a little less affection.
Surfer’s love languages are food and attention, so a little treat and some quality time will win him over every time. He has a playful side and gets the occasional zoomies, enjoys his toys, and absolutely loves his Kong, but once he gets his energy out, he’s perfectly happy to spend the rest of the day curled up beside you. He’s also a great work-from-home buddy. He’ll hang out with his toys nearby while I work and is content as long as he gets a few pets between calls.
Surfer is generally a really easy walker for his size. He doesn’t pull much unless he has an important mission, usually involving a particularly interesting smell or the desire to head home. He’s curious about everything around him and loves checking out people, dogs, pigeons, and even bugs, so he can get distracted on walks. Loud noises can make him a little nervous, too, but he’s good about looking back at me when I call him. He can be a little enthusiastic when it’s time to go out and may jump around at first, but he settles quickly and will sit nicely for me to put his leash on.
At home, Surfer is mostly house-trained and has been settling into his routine more and more. He has had a few accidents when he’s feeling overwhelmed or anxious, particularly during his first few days, so I think consistency and time will help him continue to gain confidence. He sleeps through the night in his crate and does great overnight. He does get upset when I leave and will cry and bark before eventually settling, but I think he’s still learning that someone will always come back. A home with multiple people could be especially nice for him.
One of Surfer’s funniest qualities is that he seems to have absolutely no idea how big he is. He loves being right by your feet, can be a little clumsy because he doesn’t always watch where he’s going, and is convinced he can fit wherever you are.
More than anything, Surfer just wants people to love. He’s goofy, affectionate, curious, and happiest when he’s right by your side. If you’re looking for the best companion who will follow you from room to room, happily accept approximately 7,000 pets a day, and make you feel like his favorite person in the world, Surfer might be your guy❤️
Surfer is approximately 7y 1m 9d old and is fully grown at 50 pounds. They are microchipped and up to date on all age-appropriate medical care. Their breed is unknown as we have not had a DNA test done.
Although our dogs are listed as unknown breed, buildings with specific dog restrictions typically enforce their rules based on what breeds a dog appears to resemble. It's always important to keep that in mind and know your building's policies before adopting a dog.
