Flo came to the shelter after her owner lost housing and could no longer keep her. She was described as friendly and outgoing with people, but also as a sensitive girl who can become anxious and overwhelmed in new or busy environments. Once she feels comfortable, Flo is affectionate, social, and enjoys spending time with her people.

My Ideal Home

Flo is looking for a calm, predictable adult-only home where she can settle in at her own pace. She will do best with patient adopters who understand that confidence takes time and who are committed to using positive reinforcement and gentle guidance. A steady routine, quiet environment, and enrichment like sniffy walks and food puzzles will help her feel secure.

Good with Other Pets?

Flo enjoys familiar dog friends but can feel unsure and reactive around unfamiliar dogs. Because of this, she will need slow, careful introductions and is not a candidate for dog parks. With the right match and structure, she may do best as the only pet or with a very compatible, well-managed canine companion.

Good with Kids?

Flo would do best in an adult-only home while she builds confidence and continues working through her anxiety and handling sensitivities.

A volunteer writes: I'm taken by Flo the moment I meet her. She has the affect of a reserved wise elder, despite being only 3 years old, and everyone is friend. When she's not quietly snoozing, she's always happy to greet a visitor at her kennel, and on walks she's very engaged: checking in, making eye contact, sitting once she realizes a treat is coming her way, and calmly observing her environment. Her former guardian had wonderful things to say about her too, describing her as friendly and outgoing with people. Flo lived with another dog and is said to be playful around familiar dogs but nervous and reactive toward unfamiliar ones. Flo's story is a heartbreaking one. She arrived at the shelter when her person was fleeing a tumultuous situation and subsequently became homeless; the shelter did not allow pets. While they were hoping to reunite with Flo, ultimately they were unable to. She was clearly very loved by her former guardian, and we hope someone can honor their bond and provide her with the continued loving care she deserves. At the shelter, she's been social and affectionate with handlers. Her former guardian notes that she's scared of loud noises and fast-moving objects like skateboards, but she's shown a brave face in the shelter environment. Due to her anxiety and some handling sensitivities, she is recommended to an adult-only home. Flo is enrolled in our Shelter Scholar program and is making wonderful progress every single day. She is working on leave it, a skill that is helping her build focus and self-control in any situation. With positive reinforcement and consistent practice, Flo is growing into a more attentive and confident pup with every session.
