Poe was surrendered to the care center by his previous owner, due to their housing situation. His previous owner describes Poe as an affectionate dog who enjoys being where his people are and chasing balls; they say he is a very sweet dog who, once he loves you, loves you forever. They also describe Poe as a very fearful dog, behavior he has shown while in the care center, where he has been avoidant of handling and reluctant to leave his kennel, growling and snarling at handlers from his bed, thrashing on leash, and walking with a tense, tucked body. Due to his high levels of fear, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can allow for decompression, provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
