Jefe is truly the best boy around! How this handsome and lovable guy has not been adopted yet blows my mind. With his big, sweet eyes, he'll steal your heart instantly and shower you with snuggles and love. He does great staying home alone during the day and gets so excited to greet you when you walk through the door. Jefe is well-behaved, house-trained, and an all-around wonderful companion. He does not bark and is a lovely house guest. He can be a little nervous at first, but with a bit of patience and love, he quickly opens up and becomes part of the family. Once he feels comfortable, his affectionate and loyal personality really shines. Jefe is warming up to the outdoors because its a little scary for him. He is looking for a loving family and will fill your heart!

Meet Jefe!

Jefe arrived as an owner surrender to the Manhattan Animal Care Center on December 22, 2025. He is a friendly, attentive companion who is looking for a calm, patient person to help him settle into a new routine. Staff describe him as having some behavior challenges to work through, but he quickly shows that he wants to connect and learn when given consistent, gentle guidance.

My Ideal Home

Jefe will thrive in a quiet, predictable home with a patient adopter who can provide daily interaction and consistent training. He does best without other animals in the household and would do well in a single-adult home where he can get focused attention while he adjusts to life outside the shelter.

Good with Kids?

No - Jefe was surrendered for not being good with kids, so he should be placed in a home without children. He does best with experienced adults who understand his needs and boundaries.

Good with Other Pets?

No - Jefe needs a home with no other dogs, and he should not live with cats or small animals. Staff observations indicate he does not do well in multi-pet homes.

Leash Manners

Jefe is making progress but will need ongoing training and practice on leash. He benefits from a calm handler and clear, consistent cues; patience and positive reinforcement will help him become more comfortable and confident on walks.
