Submit an adoption application a t socialteesnyc.org Their foster says: "Bear is exactly what his name suggests: a big, lovable teddy bear who would happily spend his days curled up next to you. When he isn’t asking for cuddles, you’ll usually find him curled up like a little donut on a soft bed or couch, taking one of his many naps. At night, he loves sleeping right by your side, and in the morning, he is more than happy to roll over for belly rubs. He has a wonderful balance of playful and relaxed, making him a great companion for someone who wants a dog who enjoys both adventures and cozy days at home. He is also a fast learner and has already picked up several commands, including sit, lay down, and place. He is currently working on learning his name, and with his ability to learn quickly, I think he will continue making great progress with consistent training. He is comfortable being left alone and has had free range of the house without displaying destructive or mouthy behavior. One of the cutest things about Bear is how curious he is about the world around him. He absolutely loves looking at his own reflection, whether it’s in a mirror, a window, or even a puddle! He is also a true social butterfly and has been fantastic with dogs of all sizes and ages. Despite being a big boy, Bear still very much thinks he’s a puppy. He loves to play, roll around, and wrestle with his canine friends before eventually settling down for a nap. Because he enjoys canine companionship so much, he could be especially happy in a home with another friendly dog, ideally one who enjoys playing with a bigger dog. Bear is still figuring out the world of toys. He is not particularly interested in squeaky toys but enjoys soft plush toys and balls. If you approach him while he is relaxing, do not be surprised if he immediately rolls onto his back, belly up, asking for scratches. He also loves having his floppy ears cleaned and is very comfortable being handled. Overall, Bear is a sweet, affectionate, goofy, and loving companion who has so much love to give. He would make a wonderful addition to a home looking for a big cuddle bug with a playful side and a heart just as big as he is." Level of dog ownership experience required: INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy level: Bear is a medium-energy dog who is perfectly happy lounging around the house for much of the day, but he also enjoys going on long walks and exploring. He is a BIG sniffer and wants to investigate every interesting spot along the way. He also loves bird-watching and gets especially curious when he spots one outside. He is adjusting to city life, although I think he would really thrive in a quieter suburban home where he could enjoy peaceful time indoors and ideally have a yard to stretch his legs. POTTY TRAINING: Yes: Fully potty trained, with no accidents reported indoors. COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS: Social Butterfly: Very friendly with new people and enthusiastic about greeting them. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN: Ages 12 and up: Friendly with children, but his size and excitement could accidentally knock over smaller children. Adult supervision is always required. SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGS: Yes: Gets along well with dogs of different sizes and ages and enjoys playing with canine companions. RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS: Fine to live with cats. Has been cat tested :) MOUTHY BEHAVIOR: Past this stage: No destructive or mouthy behavior has been observed in the home. SEPARATION ANXIETY: Comfortable being left alone with free range of the home and no reported destructive behavior. LEASH MANNERS: Getting the hang of it: May pull at the beginning of walks, but settles down and responds to corrections. He is making progress with practice. CUDDLE BUG LEVEL: High: Loves being in your lap, cuddling beside you, sleeping near you, and asking for belly rubs. JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLO: Needs training: Gets excited when greeting people and may jump up for face kisses. He would benefit from continued practice with polite greetings. CRATE TRAINING: Not at all: Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we are free range. Medical status: Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc
