Derek

Beagle/Terrier · Louie's Legacy Northeast foster network

Meet Derek!

Derek is a 10-year-old, 30-lb Beagle/Terrier mix with a gentle soul, a curious personality, and a playful side that's just beginning to shine!

His superpowers include being incredibly calm around people, dogs, and children. He's an easygoing little guy who doesn't seem fazed by much. In fact, he seems to enjoy the hustle and bustle of busy environments! Derek is still learning how to navigate the world on a leash, but he's already made tremendous progress in foster care. He may occasionally stop and plant himself on a walk, but with a little patience and encouragement, he'll get moving again. He's also discovered the joy of chasing pigeons at the park, and it's been wonderful watching his curiosity and confidence grow!

In terms of house training, Derek is making progress! He's consistently doing his #2 outside, though he's still working on doing his #1 outdoors. In the meantime, he's perfectly comfortable wearing diapers, which may only be a temporary solution as his training progresses. He's also comfortable sleeping in his crate overnight, and we're slowly introducing daytime crate training.

Some of his favorite things include being nosy, observing everything happening around him, and chasing pigeons at the park! He's also starting to discover the joys of cuddling with his humans, though he's equally content spending time on his own. If you're looking for a sweet, mellow companion with a curious streak, Derek might be your perfect match. He's still finding his footing, but little glimpses of his personality are starting to emerge. With a little patience, love, and encouragement, we can't wait to see more of his happy, playful personality!

Derek is being fostered in New York, NY and his adoption fee is $400.

To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
