Meet Crissy!

Crissy is a sweet girl who can be a little unsure when things feel new or overwhelming. Her finder says she is comfortable with being handled and cared for, including baths, brushing, and nail trims, but at the shelter she has been feeling nervous and needs some time to settle in. She's hoping for a patient person who will let her take things at her own pace.

My Ideal Home

Crissy would do best in a calm home with someone who understands that building trust takes time. She's used to three short walks a day and will need continued help with leash manners, especially around other animals.

Crissy's history with dogs is limited, and ACC recommends a home without cats or smaller pets.

Because Crissy is currently uncomfortable with touch and new experiences, ACC recommends an adult-only home where she can decompress and build confidence at her own pace.

A volunteer writes: Crissy may not look like a firehouse dog but it turns out she was one- at least for a few weeks! Crissy was found tied up with a chain to an FDNY station in July. NYC's Finest decided to take care of her in house to prevent her from having to go to the shelter. Unfortunately, having a firehouse dog long term really isn't feasible in the big city so they made the difficult decision to surrender her. Before doing so however, they offered up some information of how she was in their care. She's noted to be playful and tolerant of kids and strangers. She loves going on car rides and knows the cues sit, wait, go and get down. She is mostly housetrained, crate trained for up to 9 hours and is a hard puller on walks. Crissy loves "walks, bones, stuffed toys and spending time with her people."
It has been over two months of being in the shelter for Crissy. Over those two months she's been happy and social, in spite of a stressful environment and living in a small shoreline cage for half of it. She loves spending time with volunteers, is always eager for a walk and LOVES snackies. She has been working with the behavior team engaging in training games and beginning muzzle training. Due to some fearfulness, Crissy is available to an experienced home with kids over the age of 13 and NO cats.
