HISTORY

Rex is from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he spent his life chained outdoors alongside his mother and was not well socialized. His owner surrendered them both in June 2025, and Rex traveled to Brooklyn in early June 2026.

DETAILED PROFILE

Rex is meeting home life for the very first time, and he's in no rush about it. He spent his whole life outdoors, so couches, squeaky toys, and air conditioning are all brand-new, and he approaches each discovery with quiet, careful curiosity. Give him a little space and patience and he warms up in his own time, then makes his way over to you.

He's already claimed a dog bed and formed firm opinions about which stuffed animals earn a place in his crate, inspecting each squeaky toy and carrying his favorites off for safekeeping. He's gentle and goofy with moderate energy, equally happy on a long walk or curled up somewhere soft.

Rex is great with other dogs and respectful of their boundaries, and he's been comfortable with the children he's met at events. He knows a few basics and sits politely at crosswalks and in the elevator. His leash manners have come a long way and he walks well now, though he's strong and still pulls toward a squirrel or a dog he'd like to greet, so his adopter should be ready for an enthusiastic walker. House training has recently clicked, with no accidents in weeks.

Left with the run of the place, Rex is calm and reliable on his own, no accidents and no fuss. What he doesn't love is being shut in a crate when he's alone, so his fosters leave him loose during the day and he does beautifully; he's perfectly happy in the crate when someone's home or at night. Loud noises don't faze him in the least; he slept clean through the Fourth of July fireworks.

Rex is a sweet, loyal dog on the cusp of his first real home, ready for the person who wants to be that for him.

MEDICAL HISTORY

Rex is up-to-date on required vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He has been treated for heartworm and subsequently tested negative.

He has received a full health check and is currently in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding his future health or medical needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
