HISTORY

Rex is from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he spent his life chained outdoors alongside his mother and was not well socialized. His owner surrendered them both in June 2025, and Rex traveled to Brooklyn in early June 2026.

DETAILED PROFILE

Rex is a sweet, goofy, gentle dog with moderate energy and a grin that shows up every time he races down the hallway. He'll tag along to help take out the trash just for the sprint home, and he usually wins. Whether it's a long hike or a short lap of the block, his ears flop with every happy step.

He's a toy connoisseur. Introduce him to a box of squeaky stuffies one by one and he'll inspect each, choose his favorites, carry them straight to his crate, and dismiss the rest. He also bobs for ice cubes in his water bowl. One safety note: skip small toys and puzzle toys with removable pieces, because he'll swallow them whole.

New people make him nervous at first, but he warms up quickly, especially with treats on offer, and he won't need to hide away when guests visit. He's great with dogs of all sizes and respectful of their boundaries, and he's been excellent with the children he's met at events.

His training is in great shape. He's house trained, reliable on sit, look, touch, and wait, and building on down and place. He's excellent on leash with the right gear and unflappable at home (he slept straight through the Fourth of July fireworks). He loves his crate when someone's home, and when everyone's out he's calm and accident-free with the run of the place.

Smart, food-motivated, and eager to please, Rex is ready for a person who'll keep his crown polished.

MEDICAL HISTORY

Rex is up-to-date on required vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He has been treated for heartworm and subsequently tested negative.

He has received a full health check and is currently in good health. However, we cannot make any guarantees regarding his future health or medical needs.

Complete veterinary records, dating back to the time of rescue, are typically sent via email after an adoption. They can also be sent in advance of an adoption, upon request.
