Leia was surrendered to the care center by her previous owner due to their health. They describe Leia as a couch potato who loves to play gently, go on a couple of walks a day, and spend quality time with her family. Leia has been highly fearful while at the care center. She has been avoidant of staff, reluctant to leave her kennel, and tense with handling; during medical handling, while nervous but tolerant of other tasks, she escalated to thrashing and attempting to bite when having her ears cleaned. Due to her high levels of fear, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can allow for decompression, provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
