Cake was surrendered to the care center as a stray, with no known history. She has been highly fearful and has no acclimated well to the care center environment. During her medical exam, she was tense, tail tucked, and startled easily, and urinated on being removed from her crate. She has also shown reluctance to leave her kennel, growling before backing up against the wall when handlers have attempted to leash her. Over time, she has shown more willingness to leave her kennel but remains tense and vigilant. Due to her fearfulness, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide a period of decompression and any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
