Jester was surrendered to the care center as a stray, and we have no history on his behavior in a home environment. Jester has not acclimated well to the care center environment, and has allowed minimal handling since his arrival. He has shown fearful behavior on intake and during his handling assessment, where he sought exit from the room and, while he approached handlers with some coaxing, balked and and pulled away on feeling leash pressure. He has also been avoidant of leashing when being removed from his kennel, and shown anxious behavior on walks. Due to Jester's fearfulness, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide a period of decompression, any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
