Kobe is a loveable mild mannered big boy who enjoys the company of everyone. Kobe wanted to say Hi to other dogs which crossed our paths as well always showing friendly interest or at times no interest at all which is perfectly fine. Kobe has no adverse reactions to environmental sounds/items, no reactions to birds, and other situations we encountered during our time together. He may have some high energy once leaving ACC but it was much better than the first boroughbreak we took him out back in June. He still needs leash training as he pulls on the leash. But he is a pleasure each time we have taken him out for the day and only hope he finds a forever home.

Meet Kobe!

Kobe is a fun-loving, affectionate guy who has unfortunately found himself back at ACC after first coming through our doors as a puppy. Most recently, he was found roaming loose on his own looking for help, and now he's hoping his next home will truly be forever. Kobe is full of personality, absolutely adores people, and never says no to cuddles, treats, or a chance to learn something new.

My Ideal Home

Kobe is looking for an experienced, active adopter who can continue building on the training he's already started. He's incredibly food-motivated, eager to learn, and has made great progress with cues like "sit," "off," and "leave it." He'll thrive with someone who enjoys reward-based training and can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and structure to help him channel his enthusiasm.

Good with Other Pets?

Kobe previously lived with other pets. At the shelter, he enjoys meeting other dogs but can become a little overexcited and sometimes struggles to read when another dog wants space. Slow introductions are recommended, and ACC advises against dog parks so he can build appropriate relationships at his own pace.

Good with Kids?

Although Kobe previously lived with children and was described as wonderful with them, his current shelter behavior shows he's still working on his impulse control. Because of his jumping, mouthiness, and resource guarding, ACC recommends an adult-only home where he can continue his training successfully.

Things to Know

Kobe is an energetic, affectionate dog who loves toys, treats, and being close to his people. He's currently enrolled in ACC's Shelter Scholar program, where he's making fantastic progress learning new skills, including relaxing on a mat and settling himself. He's highly responsive to positive reinforcement and continues to improve his leash manners every day. Like many shelter dogs, Kobe can feel anxious in the kennel environment, but with patience, consistency, and continued training, he's already showing just how much he's capable of learning.

We met Kobe the day before a big blizzard, but it wasn't our first meeting. We first met him five years ago when he was just a puppy with his whole life ahead of him. Back then he weighed only 43 pounds and looked adorably lanky in our photos. Today he's a handsome 78-pound adult, and we still believe his best years are ahead of him.

After recently being found running up to a kind stranger with two small dogs looking for help, Kobe found his way back to ACC. Despite everything, he's still the same affectionate boy who happily sidles up for cuddles. This time around, we also discovered how much he loves toys! Watching him learn, play, and lean into affection reminds us what a wonderful companion he can be.

Kobe's story isn't unique. Adult dogs are often overlooked, even though they have so much love to give. Thankfully, Kobe is making the most of his time by participating in ACC's Shelter Scholar program, where he's learning valuable skills that will help him thrive in a home. Every day he shows just how smart, eager, and deserving he is. Now all he needs is someone willing to give this lovable goofball the forever home he's been waiting for.
