Joey was surrendered to the care center as a stray and we have no history on his behavior in a home environment. Joey has been social and friendly with staff during his time at the care center, but has shown a low threshold for arousal. During his handling assessment, he began to bite the leash persistently, and was difficult to redirect, requiring high value treats; he also found it difficult to recover, and remained in a state of high arousal, attempting to grab the leash, until returned to his kennel. For these reasons, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide a period of decompression, any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based), and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
