Meet Diesel!

Diesel is a social, playful guy with a big personality and plenty of enthusiasm for life. He spent six years with his previous family, who described him as affectionate, outgoing, active, and happiest when he's around his people. His favorite things include chew toys, bones, ropes, car rides-and, apparently, bath time! Diesel already knows "sit" and "stay" and is ready to keep learning with his new person.

My Ideal Home

Diesel is looking for an adult-only home with someone who appreciates an active dog and can help him polish his manners using positive, reward-based training. The Care Center can sometimes feel overwhelming for him, and he has shown some initial nervousness in new situations. A patient adopter who gives him time to settle in and lets him approach new experiences at his own pace will help Diesel feel secure. Once he's comfortable, his social, affectionate side comes shining through.

Personality

Diesel's previous family described him as friendly and outgoing with adults, children, strangers, and other dogs. At ACC, we've seen a playful, people-oriented dog who approaches handlers with a loose, wiggly body and happily accepts treats and attention. He's an enthusiastic guy who sometimes expresses his excitement by jumping up or getting mouthy, so he'll benefit from continuing to practice calm greetings and good impulse control. Diesel is also a curious walker who loves stopping to sniff and investigate his surroundings.

Behavior Assessment

Diesel has earned a Behavior Assessment Level 3. He has shown some fearfulness in the Care Center along with exuberant behaviors including jumping up, taking treats roughly, and grabbing at the leash. ACC recommends force-free, reward-based training to help him build confidence and practice alternative behaviors like "sit," "stay," "down," and "leave it." Because of his combination of exuberance and fearfulness, Diesel is recommended for an adult-only home with no children under 13.

Dogs & Other Pets

Diesel's previous family reported that he was friendly and playful with both familiar and unfamiliar dogs on leash. During an ACC introduction, he approached a female dog at the gate with a loose body and calmly sniffed before disengaging. He does not have known experience living with cats.

Overall Health

Diesel is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative, with a good overall prognosis. He was noted to be underweight at intake and has moderate dental disease; routine dental care was recommended. Some dermatitis and ear debris were also noted around the time of his neuter. ACC staff can review his complete medical history and any recommended follow-up when you meet him.

Why You'll Love Him

Diesel is fun, affectionate, and ready to be somebody's adventure buddy. He loves being with people, enjoys long walks and car rides, knows a couple of cues already, and even loves water and bath time. Give this enthusiastic guy some patience, positive training, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy, and you'll have one very entertaining companion by your side.
